What kind of flowers?

ever since we got engaged we've been talking of doing japanese irises for the wedding. my mom has been on my back about it ever since. she swears that they will look bad because they dont last long, but i know if we get them from a florist then she will most likely get them in bud form and then it will be about 2 days to bloom and will last about 3-4 days before wilting (we bought some from a florist for valentines and thats how we got them, so i'd assume the professionals would get the same).

anywho, do you think this will be an issue? our wedding is may 2, so they would be in season. my dress is accented with victorian lilac and the bridesmaids will be in that color as well (maybe a shade lighter, we havent decided yet). i REALLY wanted irises but now i'm terrified i'll have dead flowers. lol

are there other dainty purple flowers like that? we figured we'd pair them with white roses

What kind of flowers?
I use japanese iris in weddings all the time!

And they only need to look good for your day, so longevity is not an issue.

A qualified florist will know how to work with them and how to make them look there best for your big day. If your florist lacks the skills or confidence to do this - find a better one. They are a common flowers and not that hard to work with for weddings, for a good designer it should be a no brainer.
Reply:I think Japanese Irises are beautiful. My mom has a huge garden of them and as far as I remember, they last for a couple of days once they're cut. I think you'd get the best answer though by re-posting this question over in the Home %26amp; Garden / Lawn %26amp; Garden section. That way you can get answers from people who really know something about flowers. Good luck!
Reply:I don't have an answer to your question, sorry, but I just wanted to tell you that the flowers that you have picked sound beautiful.
Reply:Irises are so pretty. It is going to look great! I say if this is what you are wanting then go for it. Talk to a florist in advance and see what their opinion is on keeping the flowers fresh looking!
Reply:I suggest you go with your gut feeling. You don't want to regret anything about your day. Talk to your florist...they can help you decide if the life of the flower will work for your special day.
Reply:just talk to the florist and tell them your fears maybe they can help to put your mind ant ease or confirm your moms fears and avoid a disaster
